Historical Context

Kenmon Shokamon (c. 1467–1470) already treats meyui, including corner-standing four-eyelet, as warrior-house drawings. The type-name 隅立て四つ目 is a later label on that Muromachi drawing class, which is why the public period is Muromachi–Edo rather than “Edo pattern book only.” Sasaki yotsume belongs to a separate Kenmon plate and must not be merged into this slot.

Provenance: Kenmon Shokamon records a 隅立て四つ目 plate paired with Shiiya, already separated from the Sasaki yotsume plate. Eye count and the corner-standing (sumitate) orientation are type-defining on that drawing.

    Kenmon Shokamon (見聞諸家紋), compiled c. 1467–1470. Album of house-paired drawings; later catalogues apply type-names as labels on those drawings, not as Muromachi captions on the plates.

    Supports: Records meyui as buke kamon, including a 隅立て四つ目 plate (Shiiya) with counts from three to sixteen eyes, already separated from Sasaki yotsume as a different plate.
