Historical Context
Editorially reviewedKenmon Shokamon (c. 1467–1470) already draws buke kuyō and several charged variants. The type-name 九曜 is a later label on those drawings. Heiji-emaki 8-around-1 discs belong to oxcart decoration (hachiyo), a different class from warrior-house kuyō. Hosokawa hanare-kuyō is an eighteenth-century named change, not the Kenmon default.
Provenance: Kenmon Shokamon attests buke kuyō drawings, including compounds, and groups Chiba 九曜 with 月星 as neighbouring plates rather than as one type. Heiji Monogatari Emaki is cited only as the hachiyo carriage fence, not as house-kamon evidence.

Heiji Monogatari Emaki (thirteenth-century paintings of the 1159 Heiji conflict). Surviving carriage paintings show 8-around-1 discs on hachiyo oxcarts as vehicle-class decoration, not a house kamon.
Supports: Fence: do not treat Heiji hachiyo carriage discs as Kenmon buke kuyō.

Kenmon Shokamon (見聞諸家紋), compiled c. 1467–1470. Album of house-paired drawings; later catalogues apply type-names as labels on those drawings, not as Muromachi captions on the plates.
Supports: Records buke kuyō and charged variants (coin-kuyō, boxed kuyō, tomoe-kuyō, gyōyō-kuyō). Chiba plates group 九曜 with 月星; those are neighbouring types, not a licence to swap moon-and-star for 8-around-1.
