Historical Context
Editorially reviewedKenmon Shokamon (c. 1467–1470) is an album of drawings; motif type-names are later labels. The Uesugi plates show a bamboo ring with facing or flying sparrows; inner five-sasa clusters, if present on a drawing, are not themselves the type name. Later Edo Uesugi-sasa (nine-leaf) and Date Sendai take-ni-suzume (traditionally a 1542 gift, later recut) are different named types. Sasarindō and court 篠丸 are separate motifs.
Provenance: Kenmon Shokamon pairs Fujiwara-shi Uesugi with take-wa ni mukai-suzume / take-wa ni tobi-suzume. Inner five-sasa clusters on those drawings are a visual hedge, not a numbered-sasa type name. Date Sendai take-ni-suzume and Edo ku-mai-sasa / nine-leaf Uesugi-sasa are later, not this Kenmon type.

Kenmon Shokamon (見聞諸家紋; also called Higashiyama-dono Gomonchō), c. 1467–1470. Muromachi album of drawings of warrior-house marks. Motif type-names on the drawings are later catalogue labels, not Muromachi captions written with the original plates.
Supports: Supports the Uesugi house pairing of a bamboo ring charged with facing or flying sparrows (take-wa ni mukai-suzume / take-wa ni tobi-suzume). Inner five-sasa clusters, if drawn, are a plate detail rather than a numbered-sasa type name.
