Historical Context
Editorially reviewedThe Order of the Eastern Star is a Masonic-associated fraternal and charitable organisation for men and women. Its coloured star appears in Chapter rooms, jewels, signage, publications, and institutional insignia.
Provenance: Rob Morris developed the Order’s early system in the United States from 1850, selecting five biblical heroines for its moral instruction. Robert Macoy subsequently helped organise its Chapter system, and the General Grand Chapter was established in 1876.
Context note: The downward-pointing star is the Order’s documented emblematic arrangement and should not be assigned satanic or conspiratorial meaning.
