Historical Context
Editorially reviewedDocumented examples survive on roof and ceiling beams in Lemko, Boyko and Hutsul buildings, including structures preserved at Sanok and Lviv. The strongest verifiable material reviewed for this entry is Carpathian rather than specifically South Slavic. Wider European parallels demonstrate that the compass-drawn rosette was not confined to one ethnic or religious tradition.
Provenance: Based on carved rosettes in historic Carpathian vernacular buildings preserved at the Rural Architecture Museum of Sanok and the Lviv Museum of Folk Architecture and Rural Life.
Context note: The current “South Slavic” title is not supported by the strongest reviewed evidence. Lightning protection and identification with Perun are later regional interpretations, not universal facts.
