Historical Context
Editorially reviewedOttoman workshops produced textiles with large-scale tulips, hyacinths, palmettes and other stylised plants for court use and export. Balkan communities incorporated related floral vocabulary into local embroidery and costume, especially during the 18th and 19th centuries. The collection motif should therefore be read within an Ottoman-era and post-Ottoman artistic environment.
