Editorially reviewedJohn Youle, or Yhole, was a York draper and citizen, free of the city by 1356. His surviving medieval grave slab bears an inscription naming him and an incised shield containing his merchant mark, giving the device unusually secure personal and monumental provenance.
Provenance: Incised on the surviving grave slab of John Youle or Yhole, who asked in his 1390 will to be buried beneath the stone.
