Provenance: Surviving American and Australian museum objects document the heart in hand in Independent Order of Odd Fellows material culture, including a United States ceremonial staff dated about 1875–1900.
Context note: The heart-in-hand motif is not exclusive to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Avoid assigning an unmarked example to the order without corroborating lodge context.
