Historical Context

By the later Middle Ages the Tau cross was closely associated with Saint Anthony and the Antonine order, whose hospitals treated people suffering from conditions called Saint Anthony's Fire. A surviving English pendant may have held a relic or herbal compound; healing and protection describe historical hope, not efficacy.

Provenance: Contemporary redraw grounded in surviving Antonine Tau pendants and documented hospital context.

Context note: Historical healing belief is presented without implying medical efficacy.
